DIRECTORATE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
The Directorate for the Environment (DMA) of ICES has among its objectives to research, to preserve, to conserve, to restore biodiversity in the territory where it is present; it also promotes sustainability of natural resources, to generate knowledge and in this way to guarantee the empowerment of the communities with which ICES works.
Department of Environmental Management, develops projects directed to the conservation, restauration and preservation of biodiversity. Examples of its activities are the following: management plans, territorial order, establishment of biological corridors, contribution for the creation of protected areas, management/co-management of these areas and environmental education.
Biodiversity Department, develops research knowledge, benefits and management of biodiversity of terrestrial ecosystems and marine coastal spaces. As examples of its functions the following: rapid ecological evaluations (E.E.R.), flora and fauna monitoring and other types of research that includes knowledge of biodiversity at all levels, with the goal of elaborating with community’s environmental management plans in order to guarantee protection of the environment.
